Building a Forest

An idea and progress for the forest the lion inhabits. I have a desire to do something like this again, but instead of towering pines, perhaps a bamboo forest.

Original sketch. Got blurry because I left it too long before scanning it, but I remembered the gist of it.

Blocking shapes. Colours more for the sake of differentiation between major elements than actual colour scheme.
Basic textures and early value painting.
Desaturation and some lighting going in.
And the final with some colour variations.
In blue...Yellow...
Red...
Purple...
...and Green.
